Airchair II: Raising Accessibility Standards in the Sky

In aviation, accessibility is more than just a feature — it reflects how much an airline truly cares about every passenger on board.

Airchair II is an onboard wheelchair specifically designed to support passengers with reduced mobility during flights. It complies with the requirements of the U.S. Department of Transportation under regulation (14 CFR §382.65), which requires aircraft with more than 60 seats (and those equipped with accessible lavatories) to carry an onboard wheelchair. This ensures that passengers with disabilities can move safely to and from the lavatory during the flight.

Designed for Real Cabin Conditions

Aircraft cabins are tight, and maneuvering through narrow aisles can be challenging. That’s why Airchair II is built to move smoothly within limited spaces. Its compact and practical design allows cabin crew to assist passengers efficiently and confidently, (both short-haul and long-haul flights)

Comfort and Safety Go Hand in Hand

Compliance is important — but so is the passenger experience.

Airchair II is thoughtfully designed to provide both comfort and security, featuring:

  • Padded seat and backrest for added comfort
  • Armrests for better support
  • Safety restraints to secure the passenger
  • Reliable wheel locks for stability during transfer
  • Absolute lightweight, weighing only 6.7kg

Every detail is carefully considered to ensure that passengers feel safe, respected, and well cared for throughout their journey.

Beyond Compliance: Supporting Dignity in Travel

Meeting regulatory requirements is essential, but true accessibility goes further. By equipping aircraft with solutions like Airchair II, airlines demonstrate their commitment to inclusive travel — making air journeys safer and more accessible for everyone. Because air travel should connect people, not limit them.

From our Melchers Thailand office, we work closely with aviation partners to introduce practical solutions that improve accessibility, safety and passenger experience on board.
